5th July 1954, atomic times… In the days of Cold War, rock’n’roll, an electric music, is spreading like a powder trail. On that summer day, Elvis is recording with guitarist Scotty Moore and bassist Bill Black his first record released on 45 and 78 rpm records. A-side: « That’s All Right, Mama », an old blues number by Arthur « Big Boy » Crudup rolled up in hay. B-side: « Blue Moon of Kentucky », Bill Monroe’s bluegrass ballad, stripped with rhythm’n’blues acid. Two tunes that come from different racial areas but which sound like a duplication of each other with the Memphis Trio. That will be called « rockabilly ».
5th July 2014, we are celebrating the 60th anniversary of that musical big bang at Le Ness whose boss Sacha is russian. No more ironic way of celebrating that Cold War moment on a stage where we sweat profusely. We also meet there Sacha’s russian friends who experienced Cold War on the east side of the Iron Curtain while listening to Elvis and wearing blue-jeans, subversion at its best in a red country. Of course we are performing « That’s All Right… » and « Blue Moon… » with mandatory twang and slapback, linked-up to Moscau through the web, while our audience is filling a Red Army kepi with money. Times are changing, music stays the same…

5 juillet 1954, c’est l’époque atomique. On est en plein guerre froide et le rock’n’roll, musique électrique, se répand comme une traînée de poudre. Ce jour-là, Elvis enregistre avec le guitariste Scotty Moore et le contrebassiste Bill Black son premier disque édité en 45 et en 78 tours. Face A : « That’s All Right, Mama », un vieux blues de Arthur « Big Boy » Crudup roulé dans le foin hillbilly. Face B : « Blue Moon of Kentucky », une balade bluegrass de Bill Monroe décapée à l’acide rhythm’n’blues. Deux morceaux qui viennent de contrées raciales différentes mais qui sonnent avec ce trio de Memphis comme une duplication l’un de l’autre. On appellera cela « rockabilly ».
5 juillet 2014, nous fêtons les 60 ans de ce big bang musical au Ness dont notre hôte Sacha est russe. Pas de manière plus ironique que de célébrer ce moment de Guerre Froide sur une scène où on sue à grosses gouttes. On y rencontre des amis russes de Sacha qui ont vécu cette époque du côté est du Rideau de Fer en écoutant Elvis et en portant des blue jeans, comble de la subversion en pays rouge. Naturellement on y interprète « That’s All Right » et « Blue Moon… » avec twang et slapback de rigueur, en duplex avec Moscou via le web, pendant que les spectateurs laissent du pourboire dans un képi de l’Armée Rouge. Les temps changent, la musique reste…
